And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. (John 6:35)
When the disciples inquired of Yeshua on how to pray Yeshua gave them an example of how to pray by saying “pray in this manner”. Within the prayer He shows us that we should trust in YHWH for our everything and that we should petition him for all of our spiritual sustenance and instruction as well as the natural. It is not enough to hear it is important to obey his instructions. We should pray for our daily bread. This bread that he is speaking of is not just a physical bread of wheat, flour or barley but a spiritual bread of strength in our souls for our journey through life as Christians. Even the bread that he speaks of in the natural is not only flour wheat and barley but it represents a meal and fellowship. We must daily fellowship with YHWH Yeshua and the Holy Spirit for our sustainability. Consistent fellowship with our creator will keep you strong spiritually because we are more than flesh, we are spirit and our soul needs to be nourished as well as our bodies. We are on a journey as the Prophet Elijah was in the days of old who was zealous for the Lord and needed strength for his journey, the angel fed him food that gave him strength that lasted 40 days. Yeshua gives us eternal strength.
In the events surrounding John 6:35 Yeshua is demonstrating to the people that He is the way, the truth and the life, that he is their eternal sustenance that men must look to YHWH for their every need and that we are to live our lives for his Glory. He then empowers us with eternal and abundant life through our faith and obedience to His Word. It is written in the beginning of the 6th chapter of The Gospel according to John, Yeshua fed 5000 souls with 5 loaves of bread and two small fish. He then went away from the crowd who still did not see his divine nature and wanted to make him a King because of the miracle, walked on water and they found him on the other side of the lake where He exposes their motive of following him because of the miracles and not to find eternal treasure. Many people come to “Church” for deliverance from their troubles, or healing or because they are made to come by their parents but we are to come to Yeshua for our spiritual eternal sustenance.
The followers new of the miracle of Manna in the wilderness and the Manna was called “bread from Heaven” and “angels food” which was natural sustenance and a semblance of the presence and the work of Yeshua. He explains, “ I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” Yeshua is the bread from Heaven that feeds the soul and sustains eternal life in the believer.
King David, a man who consistently communed with YHWH and did his will knew this and was assured that YHWH fulfilled all of his hunger and thirsts and his nourishment was complete. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (Psalms 23:1). When we come to Yeshua and believe we arrive to a place where he provides all of our needs and when we consistently and diligently abide in his word the Father gives us the desires of our sincere faithful heart that has been changed from self pleasing to YHWH pleasing.
