Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest. (II Kings 4:1-7)
Here we see a woman of faith in need yet trusting in the power of YHWH through his Prophet Elisha. She was in debt and not of her own or her husbands infidelity with finance but her husband had died and he was the bread winner of the family. Jewish law allowed for a debt holder to take possession of the deb-tees offspring as payment until the year of Jubilee which could be 2 years ,20 years or 49. Debt can be a bondage if you are not careful. We as Christians are obligated to be good steward of our finances. This is often where the enemy attacks our peace, marriages and other relationships but YHWH is willing to provide for our needs and give us the desire of our hearts. We must learn to lean on the Lord for all of our needs. YHWH is faithful to his Word and faithful to the faithful. This widow woman acknowledged her husband’s faithfulness and expressed her own faith by going to Elisha.
Obedience to His Word is inextricably tied to Faith in YHWH. You cannot have faith without obedience and obedience will cause faithful actions that please YHWH which will yield favor from him. Abraham the father of faith was obedient to the letter of the Lord’s instructions and his obedience yielded him favor with the Father enough to be called a friend of YHWH, that’s high favor. Following the right the instructions explicitly is essential in life. Elisha did not hesitate when he saw her faith looking to use something in her house to help her. The Lord knows all about you, he has hand crafted you, he wants to use what’s in you for his glory and to bless you. Like the empty vessels, we must empty ourselves of all worldliness so that YHWH can pour into us.
Your soul is a vessel of the Lord, Yeshua gave his life for us, now we give our life to him and as a result we become like him. Your vessel must be empty of impurities and doubt and be filled with Faith in the Word. Paul says through the Holy Spirit, “If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. (II Timothy 2:21), “theses things” signifying the works of the flesh, carnality. Yeshua told the waiters at the marriage feast to “fill the water pots with water”, the water signifying the Word and the Holy Spirit. The enemy continues trying to beset you. People will come in to your universe speaking hurtful and doubtful things knowingly or unknowingly that are contrived to pull you down, because of your past mistakes and defeats. Some out of ignorance thinking they are doing the will of YHWH, like the Pharisees and Sadducee who knew of YHWH but did not know Him but you walk in the newness of life, don’t allow those things that the enemy says or does to enter into your spirit. Walking in the Spirit means you are leaning on the Holy Spirit to guide you in all things and you now have the victory over sin death and the enemy.
This widow followed the instructions of the Prophet without questions. Doubt will cause questions that will hinder the process. She stood ready to do what was commanded of her for relief from the burden. Obey his Word without question then he will reveal it with it’s spiritual implications. You may not always understand the logic of the will of YHWH and this is where Faith through obedience moves YHWH. The Lord will move in your behave when he sees your faith in his Word. The prophet’s wife did not question Elisha’s request, her faith that YHWH was working through him was the catalyst for the miracle.
Let YHWH pour into you eternal things your cup will keep running over and the oil won’t run out.
