Scripture reference:
(Judges 13:1-25 ) And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years. And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name: But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death. Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her. And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day. And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am. And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him? And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe. And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee. And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the Lord. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the Lord. And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret? So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the Lord: and the angel did wonderously; and Manoah and his wife looked on. For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the Lord ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. But the angel of the Lord did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the Lord. And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. But his wife said unto him, If the Lord were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these. And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the Lord blessed him. And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.
(Luke 4:1-18 KJV) And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. And Jesus answered and said unto him,Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said unto him,It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Our old testament text or in the Jewish bible , from the book of the former prophets we peer into the lives of Samson, his Father Manoah who’s name means rest and Samson’s Mother the initial principle character who’s name is not mentioned. She is told by the messenger of YHWH that she would have a son who would be appointed to deliver their people from the troubling Philistines. Once again we see YHWH choosing the lowly to great things. Samson’s mother’s name was not mentioned and she was a woman but YHWH takes what seems to be insignificant to man and creates a masterpiece.
“I Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”. She was obviously a woman of faith otherwise YHWH would not have chosen her. Our first duty to our children is to share our faith with them so that they will know to have life in YHWH and trust in his life giving word. She named him (Shimshon meaning sun), he was light to what was dark (a barren womb). Shimshon was born to bring light and deliverance to his people and the messenger of YHWH instructed the parents that he would be a Nazarite, a concentrated one. The mother was also instructed to consecrate herself while she was with child. The mother’s role is of initial importance because whatever is in her, physically and emotionally goes into the child. He grew older and the anointing that was on him began to show up.
When he reached maturity Shimshon became an unlikely leader because he did nearly everything contrary to the lifestyle of a Nazarite. Now on his own, not under his parents tutelage he became reckless and boldly defied the Law of Moshe. He was first found not only sleeping with the enemy but he married one. Despite his sins and bad leadership he did many exploits in putting the Philistines at bay. When we are born of the Word and the Spirit we have a responsibility to carry the torch of a delivered, witness of the Gospel and grace of Yeshua to the world. When we witness of the saving grace of YHWH we are in fact infringing on the enemy’s territory and assisting YHWH in the redemption of mankind. It is desire that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. The enemy has a stronghold on the mind and bodies of men and women but the Ruach HaKodesh gives us supernatural power to keep us and he empowers us for work for the Kingdom. Immediately after the Ruach HaKodesh descended on Yeshua, He went into a fast empowered by the Spirit and came out of it still empowered by the Spirit. Trials and tribulations should not affect your anointed because it is the Power of YHWH. Yeshua afterward went straight to work. He spoke in the synagogue and read (Isaiah 61.1-2a) stopping at the second half of the second verse denoting that the “day of vengeance of our God” is not here yet. This text in Isaiah described the ministry of Yeshua which is also our ministry. He told the disciples to do the same work that he did. He also spoke on them that they would do greater works. The Ruach HaKodesh empowers us to live up to the standard that YHWH expects. There is no excuse for sin. The Spirit rested on Sampson and the prophets of old, Yeshua when he was on earth had the Ruach HaKodesh without measure. We have been filled with the Ruach HaKodesh power and the fruits of righteousness to perform the work of the ministry.
You can do all things through Christ that strengthens you. You can speak the word, witness, teach a class, be on the honor roll, lay hands on the sick and they will recover, be a repairer of the breach. II Peter 1:2-8 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
